Rent Board Hosts ‘Just Cause’ Workshops
Monday, Dec. 4; Saturday, Dec. 9
The City of Richmond is offering two workshops on the Rent Control/Just Cause program in December.
In the coming months, the rent board will establish standards for allowing individual rent increases and decreases due to a rental unit’s conditions, historic rental rates, operating costs and other reasons.
The public is invited to attend the workshops and offer feedback on topics such as
rules and standards for increasing or decreasing rents for rent-controlled rental units, calculating rent reductions due to problems with the rental unit, and how the rent board defines a “fair rate of return” on rental property investments.
The first workshop is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday Dec. 4 in the City Council Chambers, 440 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond. The second workshop is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 9 in the Multipurpose Room, 330 Civic Center Plaza.

Downtown Holiday Festival
Wednesday, Dec. 13
The Richmond Main Street Initiative and the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts invites the community to the Downtown Holiday Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13 at the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, 339 11th St., Richmond.
The free holiday event will include performances of “A Richmond Nutcracker” at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. There will also be light refreshments, giveaways, caroling and holiday street lighting at 7:30 p.m. Santa will be available for visits 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Bay Area Rescue Mission Food Drive
Now until Monday, Dec. 18
The Richmond Community Services Department is hosting its annual holiday food drive to benefit the Bay Area Rescue Mission (BARM).
Residents can complete the fill-a-Bag challenge by bringing one grocery bag full of non-perishable food items to a Richmond community center by Monday, Dec. 18.
BARM’s most needed items for the holiday season include cornmeal, canned vegetables, sugar and spices.

Contra Costa CARES Enrollment Open
Contra Costa CARES, a healthcare program for uninsured adults living in Contra Costa County, is currently accepting applications for people seeking primary care services at no cost.
To apply, make an appointment with the health center that you would like to receive care from, either Brighter Beginnings: 510-213-6681 or Lifelong Medical Care: 510-215-9092. Applicants must bring proof of identity, residence and income to the appointment.
To be eligible, applicants must be 19 years of age or older, a resident of Contra Costa County, not be eligible for full-scope Medi-Cal, Covered CA, or other insurance, and have an annual household income of 138 percent of the federal poverty line or lower. (That’s $28,000 for a family of two.)
