Richmond Celebrates Chinese New Year

The City of Richmond Community Services Department is sponsoring the 15th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium, 403 Civic Center Plaza.

This year’s event will feature performances from the Fei Tian Dancers from UC Berkeley, Queer Taiko, Mexico Danza, and two new Laotian groups. White Crane Lion and the Dragon Dance Association will open the performance.

Tickets are $15 per person and are on sale at the Richmond Senior Center, 2525 MacDonald Ave. Doors open at 4 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5 to 6 p.m.

Richmond Promise Applications Due

March 9

The 2017-18 application for the Richmond Promise program is due Friday, March 9.

To apply, students must be a Richmond or North Richmond resident; have attended an eligible high school consecutively; graduate from an eligible high school within the West County Costa County School District boundaries or received a GED/high school equivalency between June 2017-18; and complete a FAFSA or Dream Act application.

Sisters in Solidarity Celebrate #MeToo

March 10

In honor of International Women’s Day, the City of Richmond will host its 11th annual Sisters in Solidarity celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium, 403 Civic Center Plaza.

The event will promote leadership, empowerment, and support for the #MeToo movement, which aims to shine light on sexual assault and harassment. The celebration is free and will feature activities, speakers, entertainment, and lunch.

Farmers’ Market on Wheels Adds New Stop

Every Wednesday

The Freshest Cargo mobile farmers’ market has launched a new stop in downtown Richmond at the Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center, on the corner of Harbour Way and Nevin Avenue.

Every Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the mobile farmers’ market will now be sells fresh-picked fruits and vegetables.

The Freshest Cargo truck brings locally grown produce to neighborhoods without traditional farmers’ markets and grocery stores.  Freshest Cargo also offers a 50-percent discount to shoppers who qualify for federal nutrition benefits like CalFresh (SNAP).

The Freshest Cargo also makes Wednesday stops at:

  • Richmond Civic Center, 401 27th St, between Barrett and Nevin avenues from 11 a.m. to noon and
  • The parking lot at Chesley Ave & Fred Jackson Way in North Richmond (1443 Fred Jackson Way, for your GPS) from 1 to2 p.m.
