Contra Contra County Seeks Drug & Alcohol Advisory Board Members

By Michael J. Fitzgerald

A volunteer Contra Costa County board that studies issues regarding the treatment, prevention and recovery from alcohol and drug use is looking for several new board members.

The 11-member Contra Costa Alcohol & Other Drugs Advisory Board (AODAB) seeks applicants for several open seats.

AODAB officials say the board gives members the opportunity to address substance use in the county and assess community needs to develop and improve policies regarding alcohol and other drugs.

The board reports its findings to Contra Costa Health Services, the county board of supervisors and various community partners. It also produces an annual report and selects recipients for the annual “People Who Make a Difference” awards.

The board meets the fourth Wednesday of each month from 4 to 6:15 p.m. at various locations throughout the county. Members also serve on subcommittees and usually serve three-year terms.

Applicants must be 16 older and live in Contra Costa County. Volunteers are sought from District 5 (Supervisor Federal Glover’s district) and for at-large and at-large alternates.

All members are appointed by the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors.
