Status Update on Bay Area COVID-19 Developments

The latest developments around the region related to COVID-19 as of Friday evening include:

People who have been exposed to COVID-19 but are asymptomatic will no longer be recommended to quarantine for any length of time, according to new guidance from the California Department of Public Health.

The updated guidance is consistent with recommendations by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, according to state health officials, and reflects that COVID’s incubation period has shrunk to an average of two-three days.

In addition, people who have contracted the virus in the previous 90 days will not be recommended to test, quarantine or be excluded from work if they are exposed to the virus but remain asymptomatic.

As of Friday, at 5:30 p.m., officials have confirmed the following number of cases around the greater Bay Area region:

Alameda County: 258,841 cases, 1,849 deaths (258,658 cases, 1,845 deaths on Thursday) (Totals include Berkeley Health Department data)

Contra Costa County: 190,903 cases, 1,294 deaths (190,812 cases, 1,294 deaths on Thursday) (Case data revised by county)

Marin County: 33,616 cases, 271 deaths (33,587 cases, 270 deaths on Thursday) (Totals include San Quentin State Prison)

Monterey County: 79,428 cases, 734 deaths (79,428 cases, 734 deaths on Thursday)

Napa County: 25,922 cases, 137 deaths (25,905 cases, 137 deaths on Thursday)

San Francisco County: 124,505 cases, 848 deaths (124,526 cases, 848 deaths on Thursday)

San Joaquin County: 167,426 cases, 2,208 deaths (167,275 cases, 2,202 deaths on Thursday)

San Mateo County: 122,058 cases, 745 deaths (122,058 cases, 745 deaths on Thursday)

Santa Clara County: 311,272 cases, 2,236 deaths (310,988 cases, 2,228 deaths on Thursday)

Santa Cruz County: 47,914 cases, 259 deaths (47,914 cases, 259 deaths on Thursday)

Solano County: 84,751 cases, 413 deaths (84,751 cases, 413 deaths on Thursday)

Sonoma County: 84,133 cases, 488 deaths (84,076 cases, 488 deaths on Thursday)

Statewide: 8,513,771 cases, 88,557 deaths (8,503,930 cases, 88,355 deaths on Thursday)
