Contra Costa County has begun offering walk-in vaccine services to people 16 and older who live or work in the county.

In partnership with the California Office of Emergency Services, the county will operate multiple pop-up clinics over the next several weeks that can give 500 to 700 vaccinations per day. The sites will be in areas hardest hit by COVID-19 such as Richmond, the Monument Corridor in Concord and eastern parts of the county.

“Places in eastern Contra Costa County, like Antioch, have among the highest COVID case rates but some of the lowest vaccination rates,” said Diane Burgis, chair of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. “That’s why having easily accessible walk-in vaccine clinics like these are so important.”

The county is also making it easier to schedule vaccinations by allowing people to directly book appointments on its website. Previously, appointments needed to be requested through an online form. Appointments can also be scheduled by calling (833) 829-2626.

“We want everyone to get vaccinated as quickly and conveniently as possible. That’s why we are opening walk-in vaccination clinics in our hardest hit communities, especially communities of color. This effort helps us close the vaccine equity gap,” said Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia.

As of Friday, the county has administered close to 900,000 doses, nearing the goal it set for itself. Initially, the county said it hoped to give 1 million doses by July 4. That target date has since been moved up to May 31.
